Probably the only place in town where you can have authentic Yemini food and tea. The owner is very pleasant and respectful. The food tasted amazing and we had a fantastic time there. He even gave is us complimentary tea. I hope this place gets more famous so they can expand the seating area.
This is a very small restaurant that serves chicken and lamb platters. The portions are very generous and the presentation was extremely appetizing. The meat’s so tender and well seasoned. The whole meal came together very well, and it was a very satisfying experience. The owner’s from Yemen, and he was so friendly to offer us free tea complementary to our meal. Would definitely come again
Amazing authentic Arabic food. My family and I enjoyed eating from this restaurant, we’ve never inhaled food this fast. I definitely was surprised to find this good of a Mandi in the United States; almost felt like I was back in Saudi Arabia. We’ve tried many different Mandi dishes throughout many states, and it’s safe to say this is our top one. I would definitely visit this awesome place when I’m back in Chicago!
Al-Dair! I had an amazing experience at Al-Dair! I ordered the Zurbian and the Haneeth, and both dishes were absolutely incredible. The Zurbian was the standout for me—imagine the comfort of a Pakistani biryani, but elevated with bold, aromatic Yemeni spices. Every bite was packed with flavor and a good amount of heat. If you're someone who loves spice and depth in your food, this dish is a must-try. The Haneeth was another winner. The meat was fall-off-the-bone tender, perfectly seasoned, and portioned generously—great for sharing with a family of three. It had that slow-cooked, smoky flavor that you can only get from traditional preparation methods. From the welcoming service to the authenticity in every dish, Al-Dair delivers a truly satisfying Yemeni food experience. Highly recommend if you're looking for bold, comforting flavors and generous portions. I’ll definitely be coming back!
Unique food extremely loaded with a lot of meats was super awesome.Great potion for food lovers.Hidden gems for sure. Put this restaurant in your list.
Really great restaurant. I had been looking to try Yemeni food for a while and finally stumbled upon this place. I asked the owner what I should try and he was extremely friendly and excited to show me all of their options. Portions are huge and the food tastes great (I had the lamb.) At the end of the meal I had asked the owner where I could find a Yemeni coffee store in Chicago since I had been looking in futility. He said he actually sells the beans there, and gave me a large free sample to try at home. Really nice guy, will have to come back.
Little shop, massive flavor. Came in on a busy Saturday night. Owner was so gracious and fit us in somehow! The lamb Mehndi is OUT OF THIS WORLD. Truly amazing. Home cooking from the Yemeni kitchen like it should be! 10/10 would recommend
Very nice spot - one of my favorite places in Chicago to eat lamb now. I had the Zurbian Lamb (which I think they only sell on weekends) and the fahsa lamb - both were great and they also have a local style milk tea drink which had a deep and rich flavor. I also got a mandi-haneeth lamb to-go but personally liked the previous two more. Overall would highly recommend and looking forward to revisiting.
